Get Involved

Standing in the gap means getting involved! It’s seeing a need and finding a way to meet that need. There are three ways that you can get involved here at GAP; praying for the ministry, collecting and donating needed resources, and volunteering your time.

Pray

It is only through the grace and the love of the Lord Jesus Christ that GAP is able to touch the lives of so many. The many who pray regularly for the work are much needed partners in this ministry; in fact, if you can only do one thing, pray for us.

5 Ways That You Can Pray For GAP

  1. Pray that the people will see their need for Christ and accept His gift of salvation and that they would be connected to the local church so they can grow in their Christian walk.

  2. Pray that we will be able to develop strong relationships with the community.

  3. Pray for the leadership of GAP to have full understanding and be obedient to God’s leading.

  4. Pray for our partners as they seek ways to be a part of the work here in eastern, Kentucky.

  5. Pray that God will send more partners, those who will be willing to serve, give, and pray.

Donate/Collect Resources

Help Financially

God’s Appalachian Partnership is almost entirely funded by the contributions of individuals and churches. The average donation by an individual is $25.00; however, any amount given is making a difference. You are welcome to designate your gift for a specific project or just give toward general expenses.

Collect Resources

Much of the donated food has been collected a few items at a time by Sunday School classes or small groups. We also have had donations come in by the truckload as corporate donations. Car load or truck load, each plays a significant part in the ministry.

Volunteer

There are many ways that you, your family, or group can get involved. We will work with your schedule and match your talents to a specific task. You can volunteer for a day, a week, or a few years. You can do things ranging from sorting, to personal evangelism, to construction. There is something for everyone.

One Day Opportunities

Only have a day to give? There are many ways to get involved that don’t require a lot of time including helping out at the Distribution Center or volunteering at one of the community events. You can find out about our volunteer needs at the links below.

Group Mission Trips

Mission teams typically participate in construction projects, backyard Bible clubs, BeansTalk, work in the group home or the senior citizen center and help out around the distribution center. GAP also uses teams during our special events to provide skits, games, and other activities. We have some flexibility to adapt to your groups skill level and talents and help to connect you with a project.

If you are interested in a summer mission trip to GAP, act fast as available weeks tend to fill up quickly. Availability is dependent on group size and length of stay. See the calendar at for available weeks. For more information see our mission team information page or contact Brenda Carswell at 606-377-0332 or brenda [at] gapky.org.

Summer Internships

GAP has opportunities available for seniors in high school and college students to serve as summer staff through internships. Interns will be challenged as they work closely with the staff and become intimately acquainted with running a non-profit agency. Internships are available in non-profit administration, children’s ministry, media design/development, communications, construction project management, and community development.

If you are interested in finding out more about summer internships check out our internship page or contact Angie Wagoner at 606-377-0332 or angie [at] gapky.org.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

If the above categories don’t quite fit how you see yourself volunteering, please contact us with your ideas and we will see how we can partner together.
